There were two towns in South Carolina to precede North Augusta. In 1770, Campbell Municipality was established, and Hamburg in 1827. In the late 1800’s South Carolina, young James U. Jackson dreamed of a town on the opposite site of the Savannah River from Augusta, GA. In 1890, he purchased more than 5,000 acres for $100,000 and started edifice. In 1902, he supplementary the flamboyant resort, Hampton Patio Hotel. When the movie industry showed an interest in locating movie studios in North Augusta, locals wanted nothing of it.
